George Orwell’s 1984, is now rising on library bookshelves… Google searches are increasing…some people seem to be concerned. Sinclair Lewis’s 1930’s warning of a ‘Leader’ such as Trump in ‘It Can’t happen here”…is now being quoted, posted all over now….is someone trying to tell us something? while the new ‘Tweet’ President runs the nation by Tweets and Presidential ‘decrees’…(executive orders, legal but when is Enough?)..
“Lock her up,” “Trump that bitch,” “Build a wall,” overheard at a Trump Rally.
“A hideous ecstasy of fear and vindictiveness, a desire to kill, to torture, to smash faces in with a sledge hammer, seemed to flow through the whole group of people like an electric current, turning one even against one’s will into a grimacing, screaming lunatic,” George Orwell on mass hate. – “
“From this day forward, it’s going to be only America first, America first,” Donald Trump on America.
“There will be no loyalty, except loyalty towards the Party,” George Orwell on loyalty.”
Quotes ; see below.
Six quotes that show 2017 is already George Orwell’s 1984
George Orwell’s 1984 is most popular selling book on Amazon but there was already dystopia in 2017.
I read, and suggest to everyone, the books of George Orwell, (Animal Farm, for lower reading levels)…Aldous Huxley, his ‘Brave New world’. but more specific to our situation..’IT CAN’T HAPPEN HERE’. by Sinclair Lewis,
Note, BREAKING NEWS. !!!….So now Americans cannot comment to the WH via phone? “
Headlines ! Trump shuts down the public from calling the White House to protest or commentKenneth Lipp | January 24, 2017
“In response to overwhelming criticism, we’ll be removing our suggestions box.”
The Trump administration has cut the public off from contacting the White House via the main switchboard and comments line, reports ThinkProgress.
Now callers are all played a recorded message:
“Thank you for calling the White House comments line. The comment line is currently closed but your comment is important to the President and we urge you to send us a comment online at http://www.WhiteHouse.gov/contact or send us a message through Facebook messenger.”
A little preview from IT CAN’T HAPPEN HERE.. “Once in the White House, Windrip institutes a backcountry version of the fascism then creeping over Europe. Lewis was never much of an artist, but what he lacked in style he made up for with social observation. Windrip is clearly modelled after Huey Long, the Louisiana demagogue, who was assassinated the month before “It Can’t Happen Here” was published.” And though a novel it may be, the gripes about Roosevelt and the New Deal here have the quality not of fiction but of reportage.”…any of this sound familiar in the seemingly ‘small little steps’ that the Dumpf Administration seems to be taking? I don’t wish to be a boy crying wolf and the comparison with early Nazis in Germany, but, in reading Lewis’ book, it might put you in a ‘anxious’ state, or worse… should we make these comparisons? Well, if the ‘shoe fits’ as they say.. Peace, if we can get it!!
The speech, I believe finally got him assassinated.. (we can’t have a black man speaking out against our wars!)…”Speech by Martin Luther King, Jr. against the “triple evils of racism, economic exploitation, and militarism.”
what is Obama’s legacy… not exactly what any Progressive and many regular Democrats would have hoped in 2008.
To my friends, critics, and those who agree/disagree…well, this is my opinion, mostly. But , if we ignore the failures of his Presidency and don’t honestly look at what went wrong with ‘hope and change’, .. how can we learn? How can we forge ahead with real Progressivism?
I’m a ‘Progressive’ first, and not a ‘party’ person.. i left the Democrats years ago. for awhile, I ‘ll work locally with the DC Democrats in my county in the Hudson Valley, of New York, and we’ll see what we can change.. we have to look honestly and ask, about both HIM and HER, Hillary.. what went wrong? well, it s the ‘Republican lite’, ‘Neo Liberal’ world of the Corporate Democratic party of the last 30 years… WAR WAR WAR…..Obama’ s biggest mess for me was the continuation of the Middle Eastern wars (how many countries is it now ?6 or 7)…Drones, Killing of American citizens on foreign soil with No trial, no nothing? just do what Bush and Cheney did, carry it on? NO…. I scream NO! We need as Bernie said, REVOLUTION.,but what kind? I have a BA in HIstory, taught for a few months in FL before becoming a librarian….I read a lot. I question EVERYTHING… if we stop questioning. we will (as you can see now) become an ‘Idiocrisy’…(see the movie or watch tv right now)….
– was Guantanamo closed as he promised in 2008,
– did he not RENEW , or let be renewed, the horrible PATRIOT ACT?
– Immediately filling his Cabinet with BANKSTERS/WALL STREET HEDGEFUNDERS?
– The ongoing Afghanistan/IRaq wars etc…?
– still not DECRMINIALIZING MARIJUANA which has been shown to help so many patients,… (myself included here) with many conditions.
OK, some good social acts, Acting on at least, the delay of children of Illegal (rather Unpapered immigrants), ‘Obama care’ (Affordable Care Act) – not so affordable.. because HE LEFT THE BIG PHARMACEUTICALS IN CHARGE ESSENTIALLY.. why do you think the costs are going up? He could have stuck with ‘single payer’…plan, as he PROMISED. (broken again).
ONE OF HIS BIGGEST CRITICS —–
Prof. Cornel West, one of Obama’s biggest critics says…”CORNEL WEST ”
” You can’t talk about wealth and inequality, you can’t talk about education, you can’t talk about massive unemployment and under employment and you can’t talk about drones being dropped on people in other parts of the world without talking about white supremacy and its ways in which it operates. It doesn’t have to be overt. The president is right about that. – But too many black people are niggerized. I would say the first black president has become the first niggerized black president.” (http://www.realclearpolitics.com/…/cornel_west_on_obama…?) —-
or read the 52 Historians (the goods and bads of Obama), He could have been so much more… “http://nymag.com/…/01/53-historians-on-obamas-legacy.html“l
Right wing, left Wing, NO wing…This year has gone down and will go down in history (if history and th 4th estate actually still exist after this year)…as one of the most dangerous, scary, CORRUPT, and just plain out outrageous. in my lifetime (64 years, give or take) … ITS COME TOO CLOSE TO HOME FOR ME. . I have several family members, and really close and beloved ones, seem to find it easy to ‘blame the other’, and may not even know that the Trump rhetoric of this past year or so has swayed them… or has it? I believe it (that ‘fear of the other’ blame game), has ALWAYS been with him. I come from a very Conservative family line… my grandfather, it was rumored, ‘let’ the KKK, or some semblance of it use his property to hold their meetings.. This year has seen several close family members come all out for Trump…They are mad and angry, as I myself am, only, i early on, knew that only Bernie Sanders progressives like him, had the real answer to this underlying anger and madness.
I BELIEVE I MUST HAVE BEEN PUT HERE TO COUNTERACT THAT ‘WING’ OF THE FAMILY, WHICH I HAVE TRIED TO DO WITHOUT TOTAL ALL OUT WARFARE. LOL
The article goes on with.
“Is the U.S.A. Ready for Fascism?
There are forces which could coalesce into a fascist movement under the right circumstances. The Trump campaign has revealed the existence of such forces as an overripe piece of fruit, once cracked open, reveals its maggots. But it is not yet a cohered fascist party. Its leader, Trump, is happy to get support from the alt right. Their worked-out ideology is consistent with many of his prejudices, but he himself does not have an developed ideology. While he likes the adulation of the crowds, he does not have the organizing skills to pull together a real fascist party, nor does he have the interest.”
